Why do my debit card payments take me overdrawn?

Most debit card transactions will be reflected in the balance including pending transactions of your account immediately, and the transaction details will appear on your statement a few days later.

However, some transactions will not show on your balance including pending transactions immediately because of the way that some retailers (people you are buying from using your debit card) authorise transactions immediately without checking your account balance.

This affects all banks across the UK and Ireland. Because of this we can never guarantee that all transactions will update on your statement immediately as we rely on the retailer letting us know that they have taken the money from your account.
